Basic characteristics of radiobiological mechanism in cells and tissues. Attempts of modeling it mathematically in the past century. Survival curves and factors influencing radiobiological mechanism; especially oxygen enhancement ratio. Individual phases of the given mechanism: physical, chemical and biological; and corresponding model chain. Microdosimetric characteristics and radiation energy transfer to the medium; influence of different radiomodificators; final radiobiological effect (cell inactivation and other consequences). Cumulative effect in the irradiated tissue; radiotherapy of tumors. Radiobiological mechanism in cells; double-strand breaks of chromosomal DNA. Detailed shape of survival curves; importance for optimization of radiotherapy approaches and radiation hygiene (including protection of astronauts). Application of different kinds of ionizing particles in tumor radiotherapy; hadrontherapy.
