Cooperative phenomena in solids. Ferromagnetism in the model of localized and itinerant electrons. Spin waves theory. Various types of magnetic order in solids and their elementary excitations. Electrodynamics of metals and semiconductors. Interaction between itinerant electrons and phonons. Microscopic theory of superconductivity.

FPL061

1. Many body phenomena in solids.

General formulation of the problem of many particle systems. Elementary excitations - quasiparticles. Plasmons in metals.

2. Ferromagnetism in the model of localized electrons.

Direct exchange interaction and Heisenberg model of ferromagnetism. Theory of spin waves. Temperature dependence of spontaneous magnetization of ferromagnets.

   3. Ferromagnetism in the model of itinerant electrons.

Band energy spectrum of tranmsition metals, exchange splitting of bands. Criterion of band ferromagnetism. Spin waves excitations in ferromagnetio metals. Hubbard model of ferromagnetism.

4. Antiferromagnetism, ferrimagnetism, helimagnetism and other types of magnetic order.

Generalization of spin-wave theory for various types of magnetic order. Theory of indirect exchange, double exchange and super exchange. Rudermann-Kittel-Kasua-Yosida exhange interaction. Magnetism of f-elektron magnetic materials.

5. Electrodynamics of metals and semiconductors.

Interaction of itinerant electrons with phonons. Normal and anomalous skin effect. De Haas - van Alphen phenomenon. Determination of Fermi surfaces of itinerant electrons in metals. Microscopic theory of superconductuvity.
