Crystal lattice and defects. Determination techniques of material structure. Geometrical and crystallographic laws of plastic deformation. Influence of lattice defects on material properties. Diffusion and thermally activated processes (recrystallization, superplasticity, creep). Nanocrystalline and amorphous materials . Composite materials (with metal, ceramic and polymer matrix). Fracture.

Crystal lattice and defects (point defects, dislocations, subgrain, grain and phase boundaries). Experimental techniques of crystal structure determination. Geometrical laws of plastic deformation. Plastic deformation of single crystals. Dislocations in solids. Thermally activated processes. Hardening and softening mechanisms. Influence of foreign atoms on plastic deformation. Portevin-le Chatellier effect. Precipitation hardening. Hardening of composite materials, covalent and ionic crystals. Plastic deformation of polycrystals. High temperature deformation, creep and superplasticity. Fracture of crystalline materials.
