The course focuses on the didactic aspects of using modern technologies in geography lessons and in the process of preparation for instruction. In the course, students are encouraged to use interactive board, tablets, smartphones, GIS, remote sensing and navigation systems (GPS) during geography lessons.
The main emphasis of the course is placed on the practical application of smart technologies (interactive boards, tablets, smartphones) and Geoinformatics (GIS, remote sensing and navigation system)s. They will be given specific examples of practical applications, which will also be based on the principles of experiential learning and exploratory learning (Inquiry based learning).
The outcome of the course is the portfolio of students’ preparations for geography lessons with the use of mentioned technologies.
To participate in the course is not required completion of other courses, eg focused on GIS. However, it is recommended to complete the course Geography Didactics I.
Aim of the course -

The main goal of the course is to learn student how to use smart technologies and apprise students with possibilities of these technologies in geography lessons.

The expected outcome, is that after completion of the course students are able to actively use smart techonogies in the process of planning and realization of geography lessons.

In general, the course builds on the curriculum of the course Geography Didactics I. - it is essential that students are able to formulate educational objectives and on their basis to prepare geography lessons.

The course is organized into several blocks aimed at familiarization with the individual technology and its application in the teaching of geography. At the end of each block an individual students´ work (a preparation for teaching with the use of the technology) is required.

The thematic focus of each block course (chronological order of blocks within a course may vary):

1) Interactive board - advanced usage (eg Lesson Activities Toolkit ad.)

2) The tablets - using tablet PCs in teaching, example of applications appropriate to instruction, electronic textbooks

3) Smartphones - mobile phones and their use in learning, example of applications appropriate to teaching

4) Geographic Information Systems - block is focused on basic software and tools appropriate to the school environment (especially freewares) and examples of their application in geography lessons

5) Remote sensing and the application of its outcomes (especially focused on aerial and satellite images)

6) Navigation systems - work with GPS and its use for the field orientation, but also their use in the classroom (compilation of maps, export routes, etc.)
