The aim of the course is an attempt at geographical synthesis for selected Czech microregion. A student will creatively use his/her knowledge, skills, and orientation in the information sources gained during the first three years of the study. A student will come to know the region as from available data as from own research activity, extend his/her relation to the region and gain the experience that can be used in the region of his/her place of work in the future. A student is given an opportunity to get into the sphere of regional policy, build contacts in physical planning and decision-making bodies and meet possibilities of being engaged in this sphere. Deeper knowledge of the region will serve as a base for prospective creation of the study text of geography of local region for students at grammar schools. Readiness for activity in geographical education for preparation of young people for active personal and professional life, in which they should be able to decide for the benefit of the environment, will be proved by ability to get into discussions or by solution of regional problems.
Study requires a broader view of a region (town) and therefore it is necessary for students to orientate themselves in the following fields: the environment, social ecology, economy, regional planning, history, history of arts, and architecture. At the process of the study of selected region a student proves his/her ability to work with information sources (to look for, select, evaluate, interpret, illustrate, etc.)
Conditions for credit obtaining: Seminar work and active participation in lectures Exam: Student proves informed knowledge of a region - history, current state and main issues, strategy of further development
Brief programme: a) Delimitation and definition of a region. Geographical location in broad context. Cartographic base, sources, literature b) Physic-geographical characterisation of the territory, the quality of natural components of the environment, landscape evaluation c) Population d) Development of the settlement e) Culture, tradition, cultural heritage f) Economic base, transformational processes, perspectives g) Social components of the environment, social problems, life-style |
