The aim of the course is to examine the relationship between society and urban space and to introduce the organization and the working of urban areas. The course consists of two parts. Urban Social Geography I introduces key theoretical approaches within the field of urban geography. Urban Social Geography II is arranged along the fundamental themes in contemporary urban studies. The emphasis of the course is on reading, classroom discussion and written assignments. The Czech students have opportunity to communicate with ERASMUS and CEEPUS students and vice versa.

Course expectations and assessments
Basic level
Test 1 (short A/B/C/D tests, during discussion seminars) Test 2 (short A/B/C/D tests, during discussion seminars) Attendance (70% attendence is compulsory)
For sucessfull finishing the basic level you have to fulfill two of the three conditionsplus presentation of a key concept. Presentation of key concept in urban geography is in pairs.
Exam
Same conditions as for basic level plus: Written essay on a topic discussed in the lectures (in pairs) + discussion during the exam Activity and discussion of required readings (Complete assigned readings for each class and be prepared for discussion during the classes and more intensively during the discussion seminars. )
