By the end of the BA programme, all students are requiered to write a BA (final) paper on a chosen topic from the field of demography. A particular attention is given to conceptual and methodological issues. The students should understand the difference between searching for information, data collection and searching for meaning and conceptions. By discussing specific ground rules and creativity that scholarly writing entails, the course teaches students how to develop an argument and how to improve their writing skills. During the term, students are proveided with minimum two opportunities to present the main conclusions of their paper and to discuss the used literature. In the discussion of the whole student´s group, under the supervision of the lecturer, they show the process of their research, their evolving ideas, and the difficulties they encounter in the research process.
