Basic methods of chemical analysis tested in nine tasks, namely: qualitative analysis of a solutions containing one or two cations or anions, identification of solid inorganic sample; gravimetric determination of Al or Ni; volumetric determination of water hardness (complexometry, visual indication), contents of vitamin C (iodometry, potentiometric indication) and content of KCl and KI in the mixture (argentometry, potentiometric indication); ion selective electrode determination of nitrate ions; spectrofotometric determination of iron.

One week laboratory course

Problems to solve:

A) Qualitative analysis

1) A sample solution contains one unknown cation. Identify it.

2) A sample solution contains one unknown anion. Identify it.

3) Identify a sample of unknown solid anorganic compound.

B) Quantitative analysis

4) Gravimetric determination of aluminium or nickel in a sample solution.

5) Determination of water hardness by EDTA titration in synthetic sample and real sample of drinkable water (visual indication).

6) Determination of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in a solid sample by iodometric titration with potentiometric indication.

7) Determination of percentage ratio of potassium chloride and potassium iodide in a solid sample by argentometric titration vith potentiometric indication.

8) Determination of nitrate ions in a sample solution by ion selective electrode. Calibration - calibration graph method.

9) Spectrophotometric determination of iron in a sample solution. Calibration - standard addition method.
