Each semester we focus on different breakthrough achievements over the past decade in the chosen field by our Bc. students. This course is oriented towards people standing behind the establishment of a new school, paradigm or even a discipline. We listen to the talks by true experts in the field and discuss their seminal papers. We also invite guests to discuss their personal contribution to the selected topic.
Open to all interested, MSc. Ph.D and scientists as well until we meet the limit of 25 participants. You will get a primer on MOOC courses, nanodegrees and other online education alternatives related to the selected topic.
A short (1 page) Wikipedia entry on a selected topic at the end of the semester is a compulsory exit test.

Výuka probíhá pouze anglicky v B233 každé úterý v čase 13:00-14:50.
Předmět je tematizován buněčnou biologií, jeho cílem je představit přesně to, co se na přednáškách nestíhá/špatně přednáší a zkouší - tedy konkrétní lidi, kteří stojí za přelomovými objevy, popř. historické pozadí, etické aspekty, moderní přístupy posledního roku/dvou let - a to tutoriální formou s maximalní interaktivností. Kdo si předmět zapíše, musí počítat s občasnou domácí přípravou, s různými formáty (Nobelovské přednášky, četba a diskuse klíčových publikací), zvanými hosty a samozřejmě i s jazykem vědecké komunikace - angličtinou.

Enthusiasm and joy in biology, good communication skills in English.
In case of overwhelming interest (more than 25 students/semester) we ask you for a motivation letter (single A4 page) - how you have approached biology studies, your personal history and preferences for the future career. 25 students will be selected.

Nadšení, chuť a schopnost komunikovat anglicky.
V případě většího zájmu než 25 studentů budeme před vstupem do předmětu vyžadovat motivační dopis v anglickém jazyce na jednu stranu A4, kde bude uvedeno, proč chcete předmět studovat, co vás vedlo ke studiu na PřF UK, co vás přivedlo k přírodním vědám. Na základě motivačního dopisu/eseje bude vybráno 25 studentů.
