  • Survey of the basic literature on the mammal fauna of Europe (identification keys, maps of distribution, figures).
  • Division of the Europe according to major biogeogrphical regions.
  • A brief survey of the historical development of the knowledge about the European mammal fauna.
  • Current progress in identification of kryptic mammal species by molecular methods, karyology and morphometry.
  • Insectivores (Soricomorpha and Erinaceomorpha) - species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Bats (Chiroptera) - species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Carnivores (Carnivora) - species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) - species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Rabbits, hares, pikas (Lagomorpha)- species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Rodents (Rodentia) - species survey, identification characters, distribution, ecology.
  • Primtes (Primates) - the only European monkey, history of its European occurrence, ecology.
