Important info: starting from 2019/20, there is a lecture General Ecology (MB162P08) given in English language yet only in the summer semester. The English version of General Ecology lecture will substitute this subject which will be ceased.

An introductory yet comprehensive undergraduate course covering all basic ecological concepts from individual to community level.

1. What is ecology. An individual in the environment: effects of environmental factors and resources, life in extreme conditions

2. Population ecology I. Intrapopulation interactions, population growth, life tables, intraspecific competition.

3. Population ecology II. Interpopulation interactions - predation, competition, mutualism

4. Community ecology: diversity, sucession, stability, role of disturbance & predation, bottom-up & top-down control, primary production, food chains, island ecology concept

5. Ecosystem ecology: energy flow and matter cycling, global climatic patterns, biomes
