The basic course focused on the cellular and molecular biology of parasitic organisms and mechanisms of host-parasite interactions, and transmission of parasites by vectors. The following topics are the most important in the protozoology part: cell and cytoskeleton, membrane transport, cell organelles, interactions of protozoa with mucosa, adaptation to parasitism in body liquids, mechanisms of intracellular parasitism, mode of action of antiparasitic drugs. In the helminthology part: mechanisms of infection of and migration within hosts, immune and hormonal interactions between helminths and hosts, evasion strategies, intracellular parasitism. An integral part of the lecture is centered on interactions between vectors and transmitted parasitic agents.
Before participating in General Parasitology, it is recommended (but not obligatorily required) to pass the following bachelor courses: Foundations of Parasitology, Biochemistry, Foundations of Molecular Biology, Immunology for Bachelors.

As to the preparation for the exam, personal notes taken during the lessons, and publicly available pdf presentations at www.helminthology.cz/vyuka.htm are required (obligatory part). The material downloadable from the website is password-protected.
There are also some recommended textbooks:

Foundations of Parasitology (Roberts L. S., Janovy J., Nadler S.), McGraw-Hill USA, 2013, 736 pp.

Requirements to the exam -
Last update: prof. RNDr. Petr Horák, Ph.D. (29.10.2019)

The written exam takes 60 min. There are ten open-ended questions arranged in three parts (1) protozoology - 4 questions, (2) helminthology - 3 questions, the biology of vectors - 3 questions. Each question is marked 1-4. The students need to pass each part (1-3) of the exam with a mark better than 4. The final score is calculated as the average of the particular marks of ten questions.
