The course Ethics for Social Work serves to acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of ethics and ethical dilemmas that can be encountered in a wide range of helping professions - the course is focused on developing attitudes in the field of ethics for future educators, teachers, social workers, social workers, etc.

Basic terms: ethics, etiquette, morality. Basic ethical concepts. Basics of professional ethics. Human rights and their role in professional ethics. Ethical dilemmas in helping professions.

Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to introduce ethics as a part of philosophy, to explain the methodological origins of ethics, the etymology of ethics, to show the practicality of ethics, to show ethics as a part of political science, to focus on the relationship between ethics and education, to explain the degrees of ethical judgment, distinguish between deontological and teleological ethics, ask basic ethical questions, show the basic concepts of ethics, explain basic human rights documents, explain the dignity of the human person, the concept of moral autonomy, point to the various sources of the idea of human rights, explain the doctrine of natural law.

The course ends with credit and an exam; the student receives credits for a presentation and a paper (essay) uploaded into moodle to the course. A written work in the range of 3-5 standard pages (topic according to the syllabus, or agreement with the teacher), the exam is only in the written form (essay).

Minimal requirements, prerequisites, conditions for selection and enrolment of students: Students can use the internet for MS Teams video meetings, have English as a spoken language - minimum level: B1 - "Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans."
