The lecture introduces the main tendencies, ideas and traditions of Czech ecclesiastical history in the period from the 9th to the 20th centuries to the students.

Oral exam. The student will draw one of the following questions:
 

1. The beginnings of Christianity in the Czech lands. Slavonic Liturgy in Great Moravia.
2. The beginnings of Christianity in Bohemia. The influence of the Latin liturgy. The spread of Christianity and ecclesiastical authority.
3. Development of Christianity in the 11th century. The first monasteries in Bohemia. The boom of the church in the 13th and 14th centuries.
4. Crisis of the Church at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The pursuit of church reforms. Personality and work of Jan Hus.
5. The Hussite revolution and its consequences. Early modern society and its transformations. Religious and cultural transformations.
6. The beginnings of recatholization and its form. Czech Confession. Cultus of St. John of Nepomuk.
7. Baroque manifestations. Last Bishop of the Unity of Brethren J. A. Comenius. The personality and work of Bohuslav Balbín. Other Czech patriots.
8. Jews in Czech society. Enlightenment rationalism. Reforms of Joseph II with an emphasis on religious life.
9. State and national movements in the 19th century. Austrianism, Bohemism, Czechism. Austrian education.
10. Personality and work of František Palacký and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Political Catholicism. Catholic modernism.
11. Religious life and its changes in the first half of the 20th century.
