Sculpture under the Rule of the Luxembourg Dynasty in the Central European Context (Winter Semestr 2019/20)

The course deals with the topic of free and applied (architectural) sculpture emerging during the reign of the
Luxembourg dynasty (the kings John, Charles IV, Wenceslas IV and Sigismund), i.e. roughly the time period
1310–1437. During the Luxembourg era, Bohemia gradually became an important artistic region, where Prague
as a royal residence played a primary role. Especially during the reign of Charles IV and his sons, the Prague
Court became a key international art center, whose resonance can be observed throughout Central Europe. The
issue is followed on selected topics in chronological order in a wide range of current research approaches, which
deal with the ordering strategies of the monarch and court, contextual issues of function and reception of artworks
by contemporary society, as well as traditional methods of style and iconography.

A Žigmund), tj. Zhruba

panovníka a soudu, kontextuálních otázkách funkce a přijímání uměleckých děl

současnou společností, stejně jako tradičními metodami stylu a ikonografie.
