In context of the 19th century social changes, lectures present development tendencies, structures and
personalities of the European and American architecture. Summer lectures coming after the winter ones will focus
on the 19th century architecture of the Czech lands and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and its specifics.
Upon successful course completion, students will get a broad overview of architecture development from the
second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century in the social and thought context. They will
recognize key architects or structures, will be able to critically evaluate their importance, architectural qualities and
key architectonic elements.

The course is an introduction to the historiography of the late 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century world architecture.

SYLABUS PŘEDNÁŠEK

Pakliže bude nutná distanční forma výuky, bude probíhat formou komentované prezentace power point online v rozsahu max 1 hodiny a zadáním jednoho úkolu k vypracování na základě krátkého textu k tématu, který bude studentům hned po přednášce zaslán.

1. Úvod
Architektura 19. století ve službách „občanské společnosti“, zásadní dějinné a politické změny a mezníky, industrializace. Požadavky znalosti a přehled literatury, přehled povinností ke zkoušce
2. Antika - shrnutí, rozdíl v řecké a římské architektuře, tektonika. „Historismy antiky“ - pojem „klasicismus“. Klasicismus jako princip - racionální tradice architektury a klasicismus v 19. století ve Francii a Anglii
3. Klasicistní tendence v 19. století - K. F. Schinkel, L. Klenze. Klasicimusus v moderní architektuře. Racionální přístup klasicistní architektury versus romantismus
4. Architektonické utopie konce 18. století jako nová ideologie, sociální utopie, idee standardizace, úvahy nad konstrukcemi - E. L. Boullée, C. N. Ledoux, H. Labrousste
5. Průmyslová / Industriální / Inženýrská architektura - technologie železa a skla

At the end of the winter semester, testing the knowledge is carried out in the form of a written test. (Passing the written and oral examination shall be required at the end of summer course.)
