The course introduces into the life and missionary activity of the Apostle Paul primarily through studying the biblical texts and other accessible historical sources. The key point of the course is in studying the Paul´s letters, their literary and rhetorical aspects and especially their theological themes that are a point of departure for a systematic reflexion for students of theology.
The languague of teaching: Czech
Foreign students can participate on the course by individual studying the recommended literature and by consultations with the teacher.
Languages of communications: English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Polish, Slovak.
Students will elaborate a paper on a chosen topic in any of these languages: Czech, Slovak, Polish, English, German, Italian, Spanish, French.

To acquire an understanding of the theological vocabulary and the way of apostle Paul's argumentation by studying his letters. To master the knowledge of basic Christological, ecclesiological, eschatological, anthropological and parenetic concepts and topics of Pauline literature.

1. The Apostle Paul: his life according to the New Testament sources (his letters and Acts of the Apostles), non-Biblical / archaeological sources, chronology of his life and work, overview of his apostolic ways.

2. New Testament letters in the light of Hellenistic epistolography: the form of letters and its Christian variation in Pauline and other New Testament letters, three types of rhetorical argumentation; the question of authenticity and pseudepigraphy with Paul.

3. Letters to the Thessalonians: circumstances and opportunity of origin, structure and content, main theological themes.

4. Corinthian correspondence: the same as above.

5. Letter to the Galatians: the same as in the previous points.

6. Letter to the Romans: the same as above.

7. Reading and Exegesis 1 Cor 1:18-31.

8. Reading and Exegesis 2 Cor 12:1-10.

9. Reading and exegesis of Gal 2:14b-21. 11.
