Scandinavian Politics and Society deals with the Nordic region from the political, socio-economic and partly cultural point of view. The main question of the course is whether one can talk about a "Nordic model", as it is generally understood. A closer look at the different countries in the region shows surprising differences among them.

The aim of the course is to provide an insight into political and socio-economic developments in the Nordic region, especially in the second half of the 20th century, thus providing a basis for an in-depth understanding of current developments.

Final grade consists of 3 partial grades:

oral presentation - 25 points

active participation in classes - 15 points

written paper, ca. 2000 words - 60 points

 

Students need to fulfill each part with a partial grade not lower than 50%.

91-100 points               excellent (A)

81-90 points                 very good (B)

71-80 points                 good (C)

61-70 points                 satisfactory (D)

51-60 points                 sufficient (E)

0-50 points                   insufficient, fail (F)

Each class is a combination of lecture and seminar. The seminar part consists of an oral presentation with a follow-up discussion. Given the seminar character of the course, participation in classes is required - up to 2 absences are possible.
