The aim of the course is to lead students to combine theoretical knowledge with the skills needed for research and analysis of migration processes and/or implementation of migration policies. The practical implementation of the course can take three forms: an internship, a workshop or a field placement, all within 300 hours (12 ECTS). The location and form of this study obligation are subject to the approval of the degree programme supervisor at the university where the student will write the thesis.

Internship: typically, the course is implemented in a selected department of a state or public administration, EU institution, municipality or NGO.

Workshop: organisation of a workshop on a pre-approved topic, with the involvement of relevant stakeholders.
The workshop must have at least one of the following outputs:
a) a policy paper;
b) a media message coverd by the relevant content providers;
c) recommendations towards the public administration, the non-profit sector or the private sector.

Fieldwork: typically field research and data analysis under the guidance of the thesis supervisor.
