The internal defence of the dissertation during the summer semester will on-line. The link will be sent to PhD students who apply for the internal defence via the head of the Department of Political Science.

The condition for fulfilling the obligation is a successful defense of the first wording of the dissertation's final text.

The binding procedure associated with internal (so-called small) defense:

  1. The Ph.D. student submits the dissertation electronically to CDS (naturally, the Ph.D. student must inform his / her supervisor about this step).

  2. The authorized member of the CDS will then officially ask the doctoral student's supervisor to submit proposals of at least two opponents of the dissertation (the request must include a professional justification of the opponents' field focus, including contacts).

  3. The authorized member of the CDS will subsequently contact the opponents with the consent of the chairperson of the Subject Area Board. After obtaining the consent of the opponents to prepare the reports, the CDS sends them the dissertation in electronic form (or submit it in another way if the opponent so requests) with a request to compose and send the report back to the CDS. The time for processing the report should be set in the range of 3-4 weeks.

  4. After receiving the reports, the CDS' authorized member sends them to the doctoral student and the supervisor. The doctoral student then has at least one week to get acquainted with the opponents' comments and prepare for the defense. If he/she requests an extended period, it can be prolonged.

  5. In the meantime, the CDS will agree on a date for a Small defense with the head of the Department of Political Science. The CDS will announce the internal defense date, including all the requisites, to the doctoral student, supervisor, and opponents. The public will then be informed about the date of the defense by the head of the department or an employee authorized by him (e.g. the CDS).

  6. The small defense takes place in a public format (!) The goal of the discussion on the dissertation (opponents, the supervisor, and the "public" are, of course, invited) is to reveal possible shortcomings and provide the Ph.D. student with a reflection that will improve the final text of the dissertation.

  7. A record of the Small defense (responsibility of the CDS), will be approved by the chairperson of the Subject Area Board.

  8. After completing the Small defense, the subject guarantor shall enter the fulfillment of the obligation into the SIS.

  9. After the Small defense, the Ph.D. student reflects the comments, prepares the final text of the dissertation, and registers for the so-called Large defense according to the study rules.
