The course takes the form of a seminar where students are expected to participate actively. Through various exercises they will practise their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and will get an insight into an academic language. |

Attendance - Only three excused absences are tolerated (due to disease or serious reason) Home assignments - Students will be given four home assignments during the semester. Pass level for each assignment: 65% Students will have to deliver an oral presentation and take part in a debate during the semester. Tests - Students need to take four written tests during the semester and receive at least 65% of the total points. |

Students will 1) familiarise Academic Word List 2) consolidate some language points typical of Academic English, e.g. verb tenses, and linking expressions 3) familiarise some READING strategies 4) enhance their LISTENING skills by listening to authentic academic audio and video materials 5) develop academic SPEAKING skills by a) giving a presentation and b) participating an Oxford style debate 6) learn and practice some features of academic English WRITING: namely paragraph building, tentative or cautious language, paraphrasing , reference verbs
Students are welcome to suggest some language points or academic skills they find most important to make most of their study at our faculty. |
