The aim of the elective subject not included into specialization is to broaden knowledge and clinical skills in critical interpretation of selected laboratory test results through case-based patient scenarios from various clinical contexts. The students gain overview and orientation in the following topics:selected basic laboratory tests and reference values (biochemistry, haematology, basic clinical immunology and oncology, microbiology results interpretation),monitoring of selected diseases with a view of pharmacotherapy, POCT (point-of-care testing).

Syllabus -

1. Laboratory test (defining reference values, decision limits, phases and factors influencing test results, point-of-care testing).

2. Interpretation of laboratory tests in selected kidney diseases (AKI, nephrotic syndrome, acute pyelonephritis)

3. Interpretation of laboratory results in haematology - anemia, coagulopathy - VTE/PE, in gastroenterology - GERD, IBD, in revmatology - RA.

4. Interpretation of laboratory results in cardiology - heart attack, heart failure, myocarditis, dyslipidemia.

5. Interpretation of laboratory results in liver impairment  (cholestasis, hepatitis, cirrhosis), acute pancreatitis.

6. Interpretaion of laboratory tests in endocrinology - thyroid gland impairment, diabetes mellitus

7. Infectious diseases and interpretation of laboratory tests. Final test.
