Medical devices play a very important role in the medical services of hospital system. But these medical devices are also very important in the welfare of the public. Medical devices range from simple bandages to the most complex electronic devices. They are used e.g. for diagnostic purposes, for prevention or therapy of some body disabilities and disesases. The aim of this subject is to get students acquainted with medical devices that can be obtained in pharmacies and stores of medical supplies. The lectures of this subject inform the students about categorization, difference between medicinal product and medical devices, labeling, prescribing and the ways of obtaining of medical devices. The main aim is to describe all categories of medical devices that can be prescribed and obtained in the pharmacies, e.g. bandages, plasters, devices for incontinent, ostomy and diabetic patients, orthopedic and prosthetic devices, compression stockings and girdles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, glasses and optical devices, respiratory and inhalation devices. The teaching is also oriented at the composition and construction of medical devices, their properties and knowledge of the right way of using the specific medical devices.

Requirements to the exam

Students must write a short overview/essay of the rules for issuing of medical devices in their country before the oral exam. Students pick one exam question. Another part of exam is a discussion about submitted medical devices. The last part of exam is discussion regarding their essay.
