The main focus of the Internal Medicine II course is on diabetes, haematology, transfusion medicine, occupational medicine and rheumatology. Teaching is in the form of seminars and practical exercises, which will focus on teaching the above disciplines as well as training in differential diagnosis and technical skills.

Outcomes (knowledge and clinical skills):

Knowledge of basic diabetes, hematology and transfusion medicine, occupational cardiology, and rheumatology.   

Familiarity with the principles of echocardiography.   

Training in selected technical skills.   

Training in clinical patient examination, differential diagnosis and selection of basic therapeutic procedures.

Participation in seminars and practical exercises

A maximum of two excused absences are permitted; excuses must be sent only in advance to the excuse form. In case of a higher number of absences, the situation will be resolved individually with the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine.

Seminars introduce students to the practical aspects of diabetes, haematology and transfusion medicine, cardiology, occupational medicine and rheumatology. Most of the seminars will be interactive through the presentation of model cases.

Practicals

Students completing 16 practical exercises focusing on the following topics:

Transfusion Medicine (1 practical):

Students will visit the Transfusion Department of the University Hospital, where they will learn about the basics of transfusion medicine, they will deal with issues related to blood donation, as well as the preparation and indications for the administration of blood derivatives and transfusion products.


Haematology (5 practicals)

During the practicals in the haematology clinic, students will learn about the most common haematological diseases, their diagnosis and principles of therapy.


Diabetology (2 practicals)

During the practicals on the topic of diabetes, students will learn about the practical procedures for the care of patients with diabetes.


Rheumatology (1 practical)

During the rheumatology practicals, students will be presented with model cases of rheumatologic diseases to demonstrate basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.


General Internal Medicine (3 practicals)

Practicals on general internal medicine will be conducted in all standard departments of internal medicine clinics or in the departments of individual teachers. During the practicals, students will focus on clinical examination, ancillary test results, differential diagnosis and therapeutic procedures.


Occupational Medicine (2 practicals)

During the practicals in the Occupational Medicine Clinic, students will learn about occupational diseases and occupational medicine.


ABCDE approach practical (1 practical)

During the ABCDE approach practical students will learn the procedure of patient examination, which is essential for saving human life.

Technical skills (1 practical)

During the Technical Skills practicals, students will practice basic procedures that are performed in internal medicine.
