Students will be guided through the description of a number of examples of unlabelled histological slides. First, we
will revise the practical identification of the basic types of tissues known from general histology. Second, we will
explain several strategies useful for a systematic description of slides in microscopic anatomy of various organ
systems. Third, the students will be offered a short quiz to test their knowledge on slides identification.

  • staining and structure of the cytoplasm
  • localization of structures within the cell
  • density of chromatin
  • two-dimensional profiles vs. three-dimensional structures

Strategies for a systematic description of slides

  • sampling image fields
  • using objectives with various magnifications
  • haw to prepare for the slides identification exam

Logic trees for:

  • epithelial structures
  • covering epithelia
  • muscle tissue
