COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course focuses on (i) specific vocabulary and grammar that should enable students to use and understand medical resources and (ii) preparing students to take and understand patient medical histories, and improve their skills in history taking.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

(i) Students are expected to develop and demonstrate the ability to take and comprehend medical histories from English speaking patients, and
(ii) by the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate their ability to comprehend medical texts written in formal English.

Winter semester credit requirements:

Credit test - 70% pass - combination of grammar, listening and vocabulary tasks (during the winter semester), 4 possible re-sittings

 

Summer semester:

Credit requirements:

- a powerpoint presentation on a medical topic of students' own choice (performed in the seminar)

- an essay on medical topic (evaluated by a native speaker) 

 

Exam requirements:

The exam comprises 3 parts, each is scored according the following pattern:

Reading test - 30 pt.

Vocabulary - 20 pt.

Interview - 50 pt.

70 points is pass
