PROPEDEUTICS IN SURGERY Propedeutics in surgery introduction to surgery in terms of theoretical and practical. PROPEDEUTICS IN INTERNAL MEDICINE The techniques and skills for competent clinical examination are mastered by seminars and by the bedside practice (I., II. III. Medical Departements). Examining patients draws on the senses of sight (inspection), touch (palpation) and hearing (percussion and auscultation). Problem-oriented approach to case notes and record keeping emphasizes centrality of good note taking and record keeping in patient management. General introduction to history-taking with more detailed elements of the history. Careful history and physical examination can help to solving most medical problems.

PROPEDEUTICS IN SURGERY

The objective of the course is an introduction to the clinic for surgery. Acquainted with the history of surgery, basic terminology and surgical instruments, surgical examination of the patient, pre-and postoperative care, the principles of operation of operating rooms and training tools, techniques and basic operating procedures and types of anesthesia. Another goal is to gain basic practical knowledge of dressing techniques, the surgeon preparing for surgery, basic suturing wounds, dressing changes and wound care.

PROPEDEUTICS IN INTERNAL MEDICINE

The objective of the course is an introduction to clinical medicine, contact with sick and gradual steps to establish the diagnosis. These first steps are art history and physical examination.The second objective is the ability to build medical records and medical documentation.At the end of the course the student is able to investigate patients with internal diseases, get a history of illness, physical examination the patient. Can produce patient medical history, to determine preliminary diagnosis and recommend additional testing.

PROPEDEUTICS IN SURGERY

Credit for winter semester will be earned by filled presence list (at least 80 %) and practical exam.

Tasks for surgery examination:

1. History of surgery, surgical branches and specializations.

2. Basic principles of the first aid and emergency care (blood circulation and cardiovascular system, respiration and ventilation, state of consciousness).

3. Basic characteristics of the shock, preventive care of the shock in the first aid.

4. Asepsis, antisepsis, means and types of sterilization and disinfection.

5. Types of the anesthesia.

6. Examination of the patient in surgery.

7. Basic guide and keeping of medical documentation in surgery, including the juristic aspects.

8. Common surgical problems: nosologic units (tumors, cysts, ulcers, sinuses and fistulas, necrosis, gangrene), parallel diseases and problems (metabolic, cardiovascular, ventilation, psychological, and psychiatric), specific aspects (childhood, old age).

9. Inflammation and infection in surgery (wound, local, systemic, general), prevention of the tetanus, nosocomial infection.

10. Wound types and characteristics, wound healing (first intention, second intention).

11. Preoperative management of the patient (local, general), including surgical field itself.

12. Management of the operation theatre, surgical team.

13. Technologies in surgery- endoscope and endoscopy, microscope and microsurgery.

14. Hemorrhage, bleeding, physiological and surgical hemostasis.

15. Surgical medical supplies- types of bandages and dressings, suture materials, basic instruments.

16. Administration of medicaments: injections, infusions, installations, infiltration, and others (ingestion, sticking-plaster, gel, cream, ointment, eye and ear drops).

17. Surgical drainage, catheterization.

18. Local and general postoperative treatment, postoperative complications.

19. Nutrition and dietetics in surgery.

20. Physiotherapy in surgery.

Examination of Internal and surgical propedeutics takes place in the summer semester. It has a practical part of internal medicine:history, physical examination the patient, writing medical record.Students demonstrate the ability to investigate a patient teacher.The oral part of the exam is the exam period, examiners are professor / associate professor of internal medicine and professor / associate professor of surgery.The condition for the test, credit for winter and summer semester and passing tests of 2 year(Module IA).The oral exam will take place in the library of Plastic Surgery for students who complained about II. and III. Medical Department (depending on where students complained), students who complained at the I. Medical Department will be examined at the I. Medical Department.

Lesson ends with a test that has a practical part (internal examination the patient medical record writing and testing of the physical examination) and an oral phase:Takes place at the end of the summer semester.Questions are in internal medicine and surgical propedeutics - Commission consists of senior lecturer (professor) of internal medicine and associate professor (professor) surgery.
