The course is taught at bachleor study program Specialization at public health - branch Physiotherapy - 2. study year (winter term). The basic identification with drug effects, its indications, contraindications, side effects and with the basic principles of pharmacotherapy. The education is separated into two main parts - general pharmacology (characteristic of the branch, definitions, Czech pharmacopoeia, prescrioption of the drugs and principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) and special pharmacology (summary of basic drug classes used in praxis with its indications, contraindications, side effects and examples of drug dosage).

The aim of the subject will be to introduce the students with the bases of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy with a chance of the utilization of taken knowledges for their own practise.

The goals of the subject:

The basic knowledges from general pharmacology (pharmacokinetics,pharmacodynamics)

Knowledges about basic indications, contra-indications, side-effects, optionally antidotes by the most often prescribed drugs.

The basic knowledges of pharmacotherapy of acute and chronic diseases.

This subject has theoretical character. It proceeds in the form of lectures and seminars during the winter term. Education proceeds at the Pharmacology department(room number 523 in the building of 3.LF. UK, Ruská 87, Prague) which is equiped with computers and particular literature. The student can also find here various data and case studies appropriate for preparation for the exam. This subject is teached by the doctors and pharmacists.

Claims on the student : credit/exam

Students sign up for the exam through the use of study information system.

Condition of registration to the exam is the credit, which the student aquire on the basis of following requirement:

a) attendance at lectures and seminars - it's entered

b) succesfull graduation of 4 written tests from following issues:

1)general pharmacology + autonomic nervous system

2)substances affected cardiovascular system

3)anagletics + GIT drugs

4) psychopharmacs

It is necessary to achieve at least 80% of right answers from the test. In the case of non-performance of the requirements, oral consultation from certain issue is needed.

The exam from the Bases of Pharmacology proveeds orally and it consists of three parts:

1) question from the general pharmacology

2) question from special pharmacology

3) recognition of basic drugs

The questions to the exam + list of important drugs which are necessary to know for the exam will be available at the beginning of the winter semester at the web sites of Pharmacology department or by the teacher.
