The subject is taught in the second year of the program General nurse. It follows up on the subject Philosophical foundations of nursing. It acquaints the students with basic terminology, philosophical background of biomedical ethics, everyday ethical problems, as well as major ethical dilemmas.

The aim of the subject is to increase the students? awareness of ethical decision making in medicine and nursing, to help students understand ethical problems and learn the basic approaches to their solving. The subject should also help the students formulate and defend their own ethical statements.
