Annotation: The course Czech for Foreigners is designed as an obligatory class in the first period of the curriculum of the foreign students whose native language is not Czech. The achieved language competence is the first step to building a bulk of language for special purposes (Medical Czech). Is it essential that the students successfully complete the course to be able to gain admittance to the course Czech for Foreigners II.

Objective:

The objective of the course is the general introduction to the Czech language for the students of General Medicine so they would progress both to the communication with the Czech patients and the usage of the basics language in order to be able to cope in the foreign environment. Students will master the most frequent grammatical structures, learn the basic vocabulary for everyday communication in Czech and gradually start to be introduced to the communication with patient.

Czech for Foreigners I - 1st year - credit requirements

Winter term and Summer term:

Course presence  (minimum of 77 %);

 2 revision tests - midterm and final, each equals 30 and 50 points respectively. During the term there wil be other four 5-minute-tests with 5 points for each passed test. If the student manages to gather at least 70 points over the winter / summer term course, and meets the requirement of presence during the course,  they wil be given credits for the term. There are no resits for any of those tests taken during the course.

 If the student fails to gather enough points during the term course, they will have to take the Winter / Summer Credit Test during the  last week of instrucion (week 15) or during examination period in  order to get the credit;  70% is the required pass rate; 1 regular and max. 3 resits are allowed.

The tests for both terms are based on the knowledge of everyday Czech and medical Czech covered in the Czech classes during the terms (see the syllabus).

Oral examination  (as part of the summer credit) at the end of the first year is comprised of Everyday Czech Communication and basic Medical Czech.
