The prerequisite for attendance is to pass all exams in the 3rd and 4th study year. In clinical training, held by associate professors and assistant professors, the demonstration of the patients will be focused on improving the skills in taking patient´s history, physical examination, ad to interpratation of clinical and laboratory findings and therapy assessment. The students take part in 3x5 practical lessons in each semester. The exception from this rule is possible only in students with individual study plane and students of the Erasmus programme. The necessary attendance for the credit is 80%.

 CLINICAL INTERNSHIP

Internships at the clinical department including a patient analysis or internships professionally focused on an internal medicine subdiscipline including a patient analysis. Internships take place at the First Department of Internal medicine, Second Department of Internal Medicine, Third Department of Internal Medicine - Cardiology, First Department Internal Medicine - Haematology of the University Hospital of Královské Vinohrady, and with selected assistants and senior lecturers at Na Homolce Hospital, Na Františku Hospital and at IKEM.

Bedside teaching: 6x5 lessons out of all subspecialties of internal medicine (cardiology, nephrology, pneumology, diabetology and endocrinology, rheumatology, haematology and oncology).

Times for bedside teaching: after 1.30 pm based on your selection. Duration of beside lessons: 90 minutes.  Subspecialty bedside lessons: block 1: weeks 1-5, block 2: weeks 6-10, block 3: weeks 11-15.  Signing up for bedside teaching will start on September 18. 

Credit will be given after all bedside teaching has finished upon presenting your attendance log to the secretary of the Department of Internal Medicine. It is strongly recommended to cover as many subspecialties as possible. Attendance forms: available from the secretary after October 1.

Other requirements for bedside teaching: clean white coat, stethoscope, change of shoes depending on the instructions of a given hospital department. Students are reminded not to attend bedside teaching if suffering from a respiratory or gastrointestinal infection.

 Alternative dates for missed lessons may be arranged with teachers. In case of a more significant absence talk to the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine. Individual study plan and Erasmus students please also contact the Head of the Dept.

CREDIT

A credit for each semester is to be granted by the assistant with whom the particular student completes an internship. The student shall also ask the assistant to enter the credit into the faculty register (SIS). The assistant shall also enter the credit into the student´s book.

A credit is to be granted on the condition of the student’s 100% attendance at the practical training, i.e. always following 10 internship sessions (see Point 2).

Attendance at individual forms of study shall be confirmed by the teacher´s signature and name tag on the 5th Year Internal Medicine Sheet. This confirmation will be issued following each internship session. The credit will also be entered into the SIS before the examination date.

EXAMINATION

The examination will consist of a multiple-choice test.

Examination dates: There will always be four dates between 15 May and 30 June 2013 and two dates between 1 September and 30 September 2013.

Registration for examination: electronically - to the electronic enrolment system

Only those students who have been granted the credit may take an examination.

Cancellation of registration for an examination:

A student may cancel their registration for an examination in the electronic enrolment system 1 week before the date of the examination at the latest.

Those 5th year students who are leaving to study at a foreign university shall complete 20 study units within two internal medicine subdisciplines (10 units in each subdiscipline). An examination will be recognized provided the student has passed it pursuant to the rules of the university at which they study. It is recommendable to arrange details with the Department Head in person before leaving.  

Syllabus -

1. Bedside clinical investigation of patients with typical and less typical diseases in the chosen subspecialization of internal medicine. Analysis of the case with the clinical teacher.
2. 2 days at the emergency ward
3. 1 day at the department of gastrointestinal endoscopy
4. 1 day at the department of invasive cardiology

Requirements for attendance at bedside teaching and seminars:

Fulfilled credits and examinations of all study duties of the 4th year.
