In Haematology and Oncology course students will learn basics of epidemioplogy, pathogenesis, diagnostics, staging and therapy of solid tumours and haemoblastosis. Theoretical introduction will be followed by practical lectures examining patients with particular tumorous diseases. In the oncological and haemato-oncological part of the course students will be taught basis of therapy of tumorous diseases according to the evidence based medicine, innovation in biological therapy and basics of modern supportive and paliative care. In the non-malignant haematology students will learn basis of symptomatology, racional laboratory examination, diferential diagnostics and therapy of non-malignant diseases of hematopoietic system. Preventive care and early diagnosis principals of both malignant and non- malignant haematologic diseases will be also mentioned.
Aim of the course -
Last update: Ondřej Kubánek (20.11.2012)

The aim of the subject will be to give students basic knowledge of management of neoplasias and also non malignant diaseases of blood. Students will be introduced to epidemiology, clinical signs, staging and basdics of treatment of soild tumors as well as non-malignant hematology disorders. The course will also enable to gain practical skills in communication with an oncology patient.

In order to finish the course students will be required to undergo the exam in form of written test at the end of the summer semester. However, to be admitted to the exam the credit from seminars, practical training and successfully passed exam General Foundations of Pathology and Pathophysiology (CVSE3P0011)  will be required. Credit will be given based on presence at the seminars and practical training.

Written test description: test will include 100 questions with 4 possible answers to each question, just one answer out of four will be the right one. From 100 questions 25 will cover special pathology, 35 oncology of solid tumors, 23 hematology (including hematooncology), 10 pathopphysiology of tumors and blood, 5 questions pharmacology, two questions epidemiology. Basics of molecular biology of tumors and blood will be included to the questions covering oncology and hematology.

Results of written exam will be assessed and rated as follows: 100-91 correct answers: Excellent , 90-81 correct answers: Very good, 80-71 correct answers: Good, 70 and less correct answers: Failed.
