B82407 - Selected Chapters from Human Embryology - summer semester

LECTURES - TUE 16,00-17,30

Week

1.

Development of the cardiovascular system, cardiogenic field, formation of the heart tube and cardiac loop, blood islands and their differentiation, primitive blood circulation, cardiac septa. Development of the aortic arches, development of the venous and lymphatic system, fetal blood circulation and the changes after birth, heart defects.

2.

Development and the structure of the placenta, formation of the umbilical cord and fetal membranes, placental barrier, anomalies in the placenta and umbilical cord.

3.

Digestive system: primitive gut and its parts, development of the oesophagus, stomach and the mesenteries. Development of the small and large intestine, liver, pancreas, spleen.

4.

Formation of the intraembryonic coelom / cavity /, development of the respiratory system, formation of the alveoli, production of surfactant.

Development of the skeletal system - axial skeleton and the skull, development of the muscular system and the limbs.

5.

Urinary system: pronephros, mesonephros, metanephros, development of the cloaca. Genital system: development of gonads - testes and ovaries, genital ducts, external genitalia.

6.

Development of the central nervous system, spinal cord and brain. histogenesis of the spinal cord.

7.

Development of the sensory organs.

Course completion requirements

To get the credit, it is necessary that a student passes all the tests, which will take place on Moodle. Each test  will cover topics of one lecture and it will be opened for specified time period after each of the lectures. There will be a possibility to take one test twice in case of failure. After the specified time period is over, no other chance to take the tests will be given with no exception.
