The course is to acquaint students with principal properties and practical understanding of impression material properties. Students will evaluate the effect of mixing ratio on setting time of alginate and C-silicone impression materials, assess significance of colour change phase indication and its sensitivity to water hardness and mixing ratio. They will characterize detail reproduction (alginate, C and A silicone), dimensional changes of impression materials after setting and their accuracy measured on simple gypsum models. Participants will be provided with basic information on response of impression materials to stress and wil determine elastic (reversible) and permanent (irreversible) deformations as measures of visco-elastic properties of impression materials.

Lesson 1.
Effect of water hardness, temperature and mixing ratio on setting time and colour changes of alginate impression materials, the effect of mixing ratio on setting C-silicon impression materials.
Lesson 2.
Dimensional changes and detail reproduction of impression materials.
Lesson 3.
Accuracy of alginate and silicone impression materials.
Lesson 4.
Visco-elastic properties of impression materials, measurement of elastic recovery and plastic deformation etc.

The topic of the exercises might be modified according to specific student interests and teaching demands.
