The role of physical laws in in vivo processes as well as their applicaton in various laboratory and measurement techniques is toughed together with the physical principles of modern diagnostic and/or therapeutical methods applied in medicine.

1st.- 3rd week:

Structure of matter: Structure of atom; Quantum effects; Quantum numbers; Structure of electron envelop; Optical spektra; Properties of a nucleus; Binding energy; Leptons and hadrons; Forces among atoms and molecules; Principles of nuclear magnetic resonance.

4th-6th week:

Molecular biophysics: Water and its biological importance; Gibbs law od phases; Dispersion systems; Transport phenomena; viscosity; diffusion; Roult´s laws; Osmosis; Phase boundaries phenomena.

7th. - 8th week:

Bioenergetics: State quantities, Internal energy, Enthalpy, Free energy, Free enthalpy, Entropy; Chemical potential; Transformation and accumulation of energy in living sysems; Thernal losses of an organism

9th-10th week:

Electric phenomena: Rest membrane potential; Action potentials and their detection; Effect of electric currents; Use of el. currents in diagnostics and therapy

11th week:

Bioacoustics: Quantities and their units in physical and physiological acoustics; Field of hearing; Biophysics of the auditory apparatus; Ultrasound and its application in medicine

12th- 13.th week:

Optics. Interaction of light with a medium; Lenses; Optical microscope; Optical methods for concentration measurements; Optics of human eye; Biophysics of vission; Lasers

14th-15th week:

X-rays and radioactivity:X-ray tube; Interaction of X-rays with matter; X-ray contrast; X-ray diagnostics; Computed tomography; Application of X-rays in therapy; Dosimetry units; Radioactive decay; Detection of radiation; Scintillation detectors; Application of radioactivity in nuclear medicine
