The doctoral seminar is held in English and is designed as a theoretical and methodological support for thesis writing. For students enrolled in the first two years of the program, it is mandatory to choose, in consultation with the teacher, a broad theoretical text useful for their specific project and all other students. The student will be required to present it and critically discuss its approach, clarifying how he intends to use, adapt, and refute it in his thesis. Third-year students, on the other hand, will be required to present at the beginning of the winter semester their thesis plan, structure, research hypotheses, state of the art and objectives.
In parallel with these activities, the instructor may provide, at the request of doctoral students, more detailed explanations of some of the critical and theoretical orientations they find useful in writing their thesis. The seminar requires reading all the chosen texts, active participation in class with questions, objections and comments. The overall goal is to prepare students for all aspects of research work, including discussion with colleagues. Attendance is mandatory for the first three years of the doctoral program.
