This lecture introduces students with theoretical problems of typology, genealogy and periodization of chinese along with phonology, morphology and syntax of modern chinese with reference to the Beijing Structuralist Linguistic School along with other theoretical models form the theoretical backbone of this course. One of the lectures also focuses on the problematics of word classes in modern chinese. The course ends with a lecture on the theory of chinese script and a typological comparison with other scripts.
