Tento kurz představí historické narativy týkající předmoderního, moderního a současného Taiwanu, které se vyvinuly v různých obdobích a mohou mít formu akademických článků, uměleckých děl, literárních textů nebo filmů. Kurz představí různé kulturní a intelektuální aktéry podílející se na tvorbě těchto příběhů a zkoumá jejich zapojení do formování národní identity a formulování kulturní politiky. Kurz bude dále diskutovat demokratizační proces 90. let, vztahy napříč Taiwanskou úžinou a aktivity různých politických aktérů s cílem objasnit současnou politickou situaci. Nejsou vyžadovány žádné předchozí znalosti Taiwanu ani znalost čínštiny. Cíle předmětu (ve vyučovacím jazyce), max. 3000 znaků: Na konci tohoto kurzu budou studenti schopni - porozumět hlavním událostem v historii Taiwanu v širším geopolitickém kontextu; - interpretovat události v širším společenském a politickém kontextu; - identifikovat významné kulturní vlivy v každém historickém období; - seznámí se s nástroji (teoriím, konceptům, metodám) humanitních a společenských věd; - kriticky přispět do debaty informovaným akademickým textem. Metody výuky: Každé setkání (90 min.) bude rozděleno do dvou částí: A) přednáška, včetně sekce Otázky a odpovědi (45 min.), B) seminář (45 min.). Aktivní účast jsou povinné. Každý ze studentů bude v rámci semináře jednou požádán, aby předložil krátkou zprávu (cca 15 min) o zpracovávaném tématu (materiály budou poskytnuty předem) a odevzdal esej na dané téma (3000–4000 slov včetně poznámek a literatury).
