Annotation -
Last update: PhDr. Alena Bočková, Ph.D. (21.09.2022)
The target skill of the exam ZK+ is reading comprehension. The student must be able to understand the general message of an authentic Latin text and find the key words and relevant grammar constructions. S/he must be able to handle a set of grammatical and lexical language means and to work with Latin-Czech dictionary. S/he must be able to translate Latin text to the Czech language so that the translation will be factually, grammatically and stylistically relevant. The exam is divided into two parts, the first of which is written and the second oral; in both parts the student is allowed to use the Latin-Czech dictionary.

Students can prepare for the exam in the Language Center courses.

Requirements to the exam -
Last update: Mgr. Šimon Dittrich (30.01.2024)

The subject of the exam is to prove the required level of language knowledge and skills (see annotations of the intermediate course Latin III and the advanced course Reading Latin sources).
Students who have prepared with self-study can also take the exams.

1st part (written; approximately 120 minutes): Translation of an unfamiliar text with use of a dictionary, orientation in the text and understanding of the message, written translation of one part of the text, answering grammar questions (focused mainly on syntax). See the tests (“autokorektivní testy”) Repetitio IV, V, VI in the exercise book Ad fontes – Cursus Latinus (2014 and more recent) and a model test on Moodle.

2nd part (oral): Translation of a familiar text with use of dictionary – one passage of prescribed home lecture (10 minutes being given for immediate preparation). Student must show reading comprehension including understanding of grammar constructions and knowledge of vocabulary.

The prescribed home lecture consists of approximately 10 pages of Latin texts and is changed each semester.
The list is put on the Centre of Languages website and to SIS by the teachers of “Latin. LAP” at least one month before the start of the examination period.

The oral part of the exam takes place in the same day as the written part; exact time will be anounced by the examinator at the end of the written part.
