Social Policy in The Czech Republic

It is course introduced by the Department of social work of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University. It is mainly aimed at pre-gradual bachelor students.
The principle focus of the course is the Czech social policy – its theoretical background, aims, systems as well as strategies. Each lesson is built on teacher-student lecturing and students’ group work. The course is constituted by 2 hours lessons and lectured by three teachers.

Key topics for individual lectures:

1. The History of the Social Welfare State, Key Concepts and Aims, the Welfare State and Social Policy in Practice

2 Stakeholders, Methods and Funding, Family Policy

3. Social Security for the Vulnerable: Health, Sickness, Disability and Old age<br>

4. Social Context of Migration

5. Protection in Social Risk Situations – the Right to welfare: Education, Labour and Poverty

6. Social Welfare System across Europe

The student finishes the course successfully on condition he/she:

- Passes a written test during the exam period.


After passing the course exam the student should be/have:

a) aware of relevant terminology and use it correctly,
b) aware of the role of key social policy stakeholders,
c) the knowledge of disposable social policy methods and strategies,
d) the knowledge of individual social situations that that can lead to serious social consequences,
e) aware of accessible assistance in these situations,
f) able to compare key social policy concepts in CR with their mother country.
