Introduction to Criminology and Criminal Policy – ASC51PV20 Required optional course (Follow-up M.A. studies) Lecturer: JUDr. J. Hulmáková, Ph.D. In case of non-residential learning on-line lectures will be provided. In this case students will be in detail informed in time. The course is an introduction to the basic and up-to-date knowledge about the methods and techniques of criminological research, dealing with etiology, phenomenology, prediction and prevention of crime. It covers the definition of criminology, its subject, position, and significance for other fields of science, it provides an overview of schools of criminology and its trends, as well as the state, structure and dynamics of crime; it also deals with such matters as the personality of an offender, victimology, prevention of crime, penology, including findings about the effectiveness of individual sanctions, juvenile delinquency, criminality among foreigners and ethnic minorities, recidivism and desistance.
