Annotation:
Sport psychology connects theoretical knowledge from individual theoretical and applied disciplines of psychology
and uses them within practical techniques and approaches used in sports and coaching practice. It is concerned
with supporting the performance of professional and hobby athletes and promoting the effectiveness of coaching
and sport management practice. It also uses the findings of psychology in working with different age groups and
sporting disciplines. It promotes the practical, everyday use of positive psychology approaches and techniques
such as mental training, self-talk, flow, and the use of depth psychology concepts, works with principles of
personal development through sports practice. Sport psychology also supports all professional athletes outside of
their sporting career in the areas of mental health and dual careers. The course also includes links with other
applied areas, such as business psychology and applications for practice.

Aim of subject:
To offer an overview of current theories, methods, and research results influencing sports performance and well-being of professional and hobby athletes. Particular attention is given to practical approaches and techniques for individual and team sports, individual age groups, other participants - coaches, and sports management. Emphasis is also given to how sporting activity can support individual personal development, and vice versa, and the link between sport psychology and business psychology.

Gained knowledge:
The student cab describe the basic theoretical background of sport psychology, explain the basic concepts, and define the links with other areas of psychology and related disciplines. The student can discuss and clarify basic concepts.

Gained skills:
The student can apply the knowledge of sport psychology in practical areas, both in training and coaching or sports management practice. The student can design sport psychology programs and consult on basic sport psychology topics.

Syllabus:
1. INTRODUCTION TO SPORT PSYCHOLOGY: history, basic principles, theories, and trends in sport psychology. Overview of psychological characteristics affecting sports performance. The relationship of sport to individual personal development. Roles in sport psychology. Exercise Psychology. Arousal, anxiety, stress: bio-psychological implications. Theories and techniques of performance. The process of attention. Attention problems and methods for improving concentration. Motivation in sport: models and theories. Diagnostics in sport psychology.

2. CONSCIOUSNESS & UNCONSCIOUSNESS | POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY IN SPORT: Theories of personality and sports psychology. Influencing personality through sport and vice versa. The unconscious in sport. Cognitive dissonance and defense mechanisms in sport. Positive psychology - basic principles and theories. Growth mindset in sport. Mindfulness and meditation in sport. Self-awareness. Flow states. Mental preparation | imagination. Competition and anxiety.

3. LEADERSHIP & GOAL SETTING | COMMUNICATION & TEAM: Goal setting: theory, practice, and planning techniques. Theories and approaches to communication in sport. Verbal and non-verbal language. Coaching practice, motivational interviewing, cueing. The role and communication of the coach. Group dynamics, teamwork, and gender and age differences. Theory of groups and teams.
