Cílem kurzu je seznámit s hlavním proudem světové translatologie, jejími paradigmatickými obraty, tradicí i aktuálními problémy. Na tomto pozadí se pak věnuje jádru „světové klasiky“ obecných teorií a s ním spojeným teoreticko-metodologickým otázkám. Paralelně s kurzem Metod vědecké práce je i oporou pro diplomovou práci, nemluvě o tom, že by aplikace získaných poznatků měla přispět k hlubší sebereflexi při překládání. Kurz navazuje na Základy teorie překladu z bak. studia, které prohlubuje a rozšiřuje rámec pro zasazení českých a slovenských teorií. Na kurz pak navazují předměty PVP TPII a PP Translatologická analýza. Okruhy:

2. Teorie a modely: J. Catford
3. Teorie a modely: E. Nida
4. Teorie a modely: P. Newmark
5. Teorie a modely: Skopos (Vermeer, Reiss, Nord)
6. Teorie a modely: Polysystém a deskriptivizmus (Even-Zohar, Toury)
7. Teorie a modely: Manipulace (Lefevere)
