Předmět je zaměřen na četbu a rozbor vybraných kapitol starších upanišad. V průběhu četby bude kromě významové interpretace textu věnována pozornost gramatickým, lexikálním a syntaktickým rysům jazyka těchto textů. Četba bude doplněna výkladem historického vývoje náboženského a filosofického myšlení severoindcké společnosti během první poloviny 1. tisíciletí př.n.l.
