The course is dedicated to socially conditioned variability in speech, from the perspective of both speech production and perception. The phonetic realization of the sound patterns of a given language changes with a wide range of factors like the speaker’s sex/gender, socioeconomic status or ethnicity, reflecting the construction of one’s identity. The seminars are dedicated to auditory and acoustic analyses of selected speech samples.
The course is taught in English.

The course is designed primarily for students of Phonetics and English Language. Other students may enroll depending on the capacity.
