„Etnicita“ patří již řadu desetiletí k jedněm z nejfrekventovanějších termínů společenských věd. Výrazně se
projevila i v souvislosti s tzv. „etnizací“ společenského dění na řadě míst světa (mj. v kontextu etnických konfliktů).
V rámci přednáškového cyklu je analyzováno pojetí a vnímání „etnicity“ v minulosti i současnosti, resp. posuny na
tomto poli. Blíže sledována je i odpovídající terminologie a její proměny. Představeny jsou relevantní teorie a
definice etnicity na ose primordialismus – konstruktivismus a jejich čelní představitelé (F. Barth, J. Bromjel, R.
Brubaker, A. Cohen, A. L. Epstein, H. Gans, E. Roosens, A. D. Smith a další). Speciální pozornost je věnována
prezentaci a zhodnocení klíčové literatury, tuzemské i zahraniční.
Student se podrobně seznámí s problematikou etnicity jako aktuálního fenoménu; získané vědomosti by měl být
schopen komparovat a aktivně používat v kontextu obecných etnologických témat i jednotlivých „případových
studií“.
