The course provides an overview of different subdisciplines within onomastics (e.g. toponyms, anthroponyms, commercial names, etc.) and also the possibilities of interdisciplinary outreach of name research (digital humanities, archaeology, translation, etc.). The individual topics will be adjusted according to the students’ culture, language background and interests).

The students will become familiar with individual disciplines within name studies and different approaches to names and their research. At the end of the course they should be able to understand the specifics of names and apply some of the knowledge and skills they have gained during the course to conduct and present their own research.

-  presentation (15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions, the topic of research is the same as for the essay)

-  study diary (reflexions on the sessions and study material and further questions on individual topic)

-  essay (4,500 – 5,500 words)
