Předmět prezentuje základní témata a metodologie současné anglické lingvistiky. Zaměřuje se zejména na oblast nadvětnou (language in context, language in use, text and function), lexikální (the structure of words, the meaning of words), a empirické korpusově založené přístupy ke studiu angličtiny
Přednášky uvádějí jednotlivá témata; semináře se zaměřují na praktické procvičení a na diskusi k dílčím problémům.
