The English language exam for PhD students assesses the language competence needed for contacts and communication in the field. Students demonstrate the ability to produce their own professional text on the topic of their dissertation (assessing academic structure and coherence, adequacy of vocabulary and syntax, and communication) and the level of oral communication (timing and topic of presentation, adequacy of linguistic resources and interaction in subsequent discussion). After the colloquium, which simulates a conference presentation, students receive feedback on their performance.
