Annotation -
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issue of children's sports training, to determine the general starting points of this issue as a basis for training in later years. It is mainly about determining different approaches, forms and methods compared to adult training, to master the issue of age and developmental patterns and their importance. In other areas, the course deals with the long-term concept of training, general principles for children's training, the components of sports training and their form in this period. The subject also deals with supplementary questions such as relation to school, parents, etc.

Aim of the course -

The aim of the course is to familiarize with the issue of sports training of children, to determine the general basis of this issue as a basis for training in later years. It is primarily about determining the different approaches, forms and methods compared to adult training, mastering the issue of age and developmental laws and their importance. In other areas, the course deals with the long-term concept of training, general principles for training children, components of sports training and their form in this period. The course also deals with additional issues such as the relationship with school, parents, etc.

Course completion requirements -

Grading Structure

  • Applicable for both full-time (PPPD213) and part-time (PPPD213K) students.
  • Final grade consists of 2 components:
    1. Test results (max. 30 points, min. 15 points to pass).
    2. Seminar project evaluation (max. 30 points, min. 15 points to pass).
  • Total points possible: 60.
  • Both requirements (test + seminar project) must be fulfilled to pass!
  • Final grade distribution:
    • 30 – 39 pointsSatisfactory (3)
    • 40 – 49 pointsGood (2)
    • 50 – 60 pointsExcellent (1)

  • Content: 15 questions, each worth up to 2 points.
  • Scoring criteria:
    • 0 points – insufficient answer.
    • 1 point – incomplete answer.
    • 2 points – complete answer.
  • Maximum score: 30 points.
  • A test is considered failed if the student scores less than 15 points.

  • Students work in pairs (they choose their partner freely).
  • The project consists of 2 parts:
    1. Short promotional video.
    2. Promotional project.

  • Educational video for parents.
  • Recruitment video for a specific sport and club.
  • Promotional video focused on children’s home exercises.

���� Promotional Project Options:

  • Designing an educational brochure for a sports club.
  • Creating an educational poster for parents.

  • Both parts (video & project) must be submitted!
  • Pairs receive a shared evaluation for the entire project.

  • Evaluation will take place in person, online via MS Teams, or over the phone.
    • Projects will NOT be evaluated via email!

Syllabus -

Teaching content:
1. General background of children's sports training, European Charter of Sport on children's sport, differences between children's and adults' training.
2. 2. Age and developmental patterns, calendar and biological age,
3. Sensitive periods and their importance for children's training.
4. Long-term concept of sports training, differences between the concept of early specialization and training corresponding to development, versatility, the stage of sports pre-preparation, basic training and specialized training.
5. General principles of training children. Social interaction forms, number of assistants, relationship with children, importance of training aids.
6. Components of sports training. The importance of the individual components, Conditioning - methods, forms and means of developing motor abilities and skills. Effect of long-term training on individual movement abilities.
7. Stimulation of speed abilities - goals, specifics, methods, means, forms, diagnostics.
8. Stimulation of endurance abilities - objectives, specifics, methods, means, forms, diagnostics
9. Stimulation of strength abilities - objectives, specifics, methods, means, forms, diagnostics
10. Stimulation of coordination skills and mobility - objectives, specifics, methods, means, forms, diagnostics

Learning outcomes -

Learning Outcomes

The student knows the specifics of ontogenetic development in the target age categories and understands their relevance to sports training for children and youth.

He/she knows the localization of sensory periods and can explain their nature. Can define the term biological age and explain its importance for training children and identifying sporting talent.

The student can explain the term long-term concept of sports training and understands all the main areas that are reflected in the selection of the different strategies of this concept. The student can define the risks associated with early specialization and is able to define their influence on the different stages of sports training.

He/she knows the ontogenetic specificities of the training of individual movement abilities and is able to apply these parameters in the preparation of specific exercises.

Understands the specific developmental requirements in the area of technique and tactics acquisition in terms of objectives, methods and forms. Knows the basic objectives and approaches to psychological preparation in children.

The student knows the basic coaching styles and understands when and how to use these styles in training children.

The student understands the work ethics of coaching children and related topics. The student knows the basic problem areas of working with parents of children and knows how to organize meetings with parents.

The student knows the organization of child recruitment and understands the positive and negative areas of different approaches to child recruitment.

The student understands the different areas of talent identification and can define the basic areas in terms of systems and processes.

The student knows the main principles of sports talent diagnosis and its interpretation, both in the synchronous and diachronous sense.

The student knows the basic organizational structure and selection models used for talent identification. The student is able to state their pros and cons.
